Robert Downey Jr to be replaced as Iron Man?
Usually an actor is known for the superhero he plays on screen be it Michael Keaton, Christian Bale, George Clooney, Ben Affleck etc. as Batman or various Supermen be it Christopher Reeves, Brandon Routhe or Henry Cavill etc. But whenever you think of Wolverine only one name that comes to your mind and that is Hugh Jackman or in this case Iron Man/Tony Stark or you can call him Robert Downey Jr. While Hugh Jackman is all set to hung his boots after Logan in 2017 and we are already heartbroken. Looks like Robert Downey Jr. is to follow the suit soon along with Chris Evans as Captain America. Many a times it has happened that people have confused Robert Downey Jr to BE Tony Stark. Basically he has imbibed the traits of Tony Stark or vice-vers. So when MCU’s head Kevin Feige was asked about the same as there have been several reports of them being replaced, he told Toronto Sun, about there being several ways the superhero character could go, for one it may go the War Machine or The Hulk way when Don Cheadle replaced Terrence Lewis and Mark Ruffalo replaced Edward Norton, respectively. Or another would be the way they treated Hank Pym as the original Ant-Man.
“I think it could be either one,” Feige said. “These characters have been around for 50-plus years, and have been relatively ageless. Sometimes there are alternate stories where the character is younger than they usually are, or older, but they usually maintain a certain age.” He continued, “I think most of these characters that are iconic, like (James) Bond, like Batman, like Spider-Man, like Iron Man, someday will be portrayed by different actors. The good news right now is I don’t have to think about that for a long time. We have storylines for this cast for many years to come.”
Ealrier as well Joe Russo has mentioned about the recasting of probably MCU’s biggest superhero Iron Man/Tony Stark. He had mentioned, “There has been talk of recasting some key roles, Iron Man for example, how much of a big decision is that, creatively and financially, and how much does it change the dynamic?”
He also added, “It’s almost impossible to replace Robert, he’s the biggest movie star in the world. One close up from Robert is worth another actor’s entire performance, he’s incredibly gifted and insanely talented,” he continued. “I think if and when he is done with the character I think you will find that Iron Man might disappear for a while. I think the only way that you could reboot that character is to give a generational gap that would allow another actor to at least have a chance to redefine that character without the enormous spectre of Robert hanging over it. There are so many characters in the Marvel universe that can pick up the ball and run without it through the next phase or two before you need to see Iron Man again, frankly.”
We’ll know when it happens if it happens. And fans are sure to be heartbroken, so as per me, it’s better to do away with the character rather than replacing it. For now let’s enjoy the fact that Robert Downey Jr. is still their go to guy and the main money spinner as far as MCU is concerned
