Scarlett Johansson Reveals Her Ideas For BLACK WIDOW Solo Movie

Image
Natalia Alianovna Romanoff is finally – finally – about to spearhead a Marvel standalone movie of her own. Otherwise known as the famous (and deadly!) Black Widow, news of a Romanoff-centric spinoff first brought the Internet to a standstill late last week, when it was revealed that Marvel had enlisted Jac Schaeffer to hash out a script. Details are still few and far between, but there are already signs of tangible progress, as Marvel Studios looks to capitalize on its biggest female star. And not a moment too soon. Scarlett Johansson’s former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent arguably enjoyed her best material in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Joe and Anthony Russo’s sequel that was steeped in the rich history of ’60s espionage. Taking that into consideration, we’re inclined to believe that the (R-rated?) Black Widow offshoot will double down on the character’s murky history as an ex-Soviet spy. In fact, that’s something Johansson hopes to see as well. Speaking in a recent interview, the actre

Marvel 's Inhumans Is Dead Last On Box Office Charts This Weekend

Image
The weekend box office estimates (Fri-Sun) are in, and things aren’t looking great for  Marvel’s Inhumans . The movie brought in just $2.6 million globally, earning it the last place in a chart of 25 films tracked by  ComScore . Amongst 18 features with domestic box office takes this weekend,  Inhumans  ranks 15th, with $1.5 million. Dunkirk clearly won the weekend from a global perspective, raking in $36.5 million for its openings in China and Italy. The Hitman’s Bodyguard won in the U.S., with $10.25 million. Still, this Labor Day weekend is the worst in terms of overall domestic box office revenue since 1999. Though  Inhumans  wasn’t expected to bring in big bucks at the box office, the negative reviews and press circling the show like vultures doesn’t bode well for its future when it debuts on ABC on September 29th. With no money and a net negative word of mouth gained from it, one might wonder what purpose was served by releasing the show’s first two episodes in IMAX theaters at a

Upcoming Superhero Movie Release Dates: From 2018-2021

Image
There’s no denying that the most popular genre around these days is the superhero movie.  Christopher Nolan ’s Dark Knight Trilogy proved that comic book adaptations could be just as dramatic and heavy as non-genre films, Marvel Studios jumpstarted a massive interconnected series of superhero movies that were significantly more colorful and humorous, and audiences have been turning out to both kinds of superhero films in droves. With nearly every major studio now working to turn its own comic book properties into the next big thing, and with Marvel Studios and Warner Bros. plotting out half a decade’s worth of material, it’s sometimes tough to keep track of what’s coming out when, who’s in it, and how it fits into the overall picture.  Not to worry, though, because we here at Collider have you covered. Below, you’ll find a comprehensive guide of superhero movie release dates for every major comic book adaptation on the calendar, going all the way up to the year 2020. Moreover, we’ll be

Scarlett Johansson Found Her Roots and Couldn't Stop Crying

Image
Her Grandfather’s whole family was wiped out in the Warsaw Ghetto In the popular show Finding Your Roots, celebrities from around the world find out about their ancestry and where they came from. Scarlett Johansson participated in the show. She knew she had Jewish origins but never really investigated her family history and she was not prepared for the sad information she discovered during the show. She discovered that her great grandfather Sol was a holocaust survivor who lost his entire family in the Warsaw Ghetto. “I couldn’t believe the horror,” Scarlett said tearfully. Sol used to sell bananas as a street vendor in America while at the same time, his brother and their entire family was under the command of the Nazis in the Warsaw Ghetto and was eventually murdered. “This revelation makes me feel even more connected to this side of my family,” Scartlett said while crying as she held documents about them from Yad Vashem in her hands which confirmed what happened to them. Scarlett re

IS Marvel going to create Chinese heroes for Asian fans

Image
Chinese superheroes will soon be joining the pantheon of larger-than-life Marvel universe mainstays Spider-Man, Iron Man and the X-Men, a company official said as the comic book giant makes a major thrust into Asia. As part of a push to grow its Asia fanbase, the Disney-owned franchise has released mobile games in China, opened “Marvel Stores” in South Korea and is searching for artistic talent in the Philippines, Marvel editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski said. “We have been making great strides especially in Asia. We try to hire more Asian creators, writers and artists to bring a piece of their culture to Marvel comics,” he said in Manila where he visited a major university for fresh talent. The comic giant plans to introduce two new Chinese superheroes: “Sword Master” and “Aero” who will be based in China, Mr. Cebulski added. Chinese mythology “They are going to be heavily based on Chinese culture and Chinese mythology but set in the modern world and they will interact with the other hero

Chris Evans Says Marvel Doesn't Miss

Marvel Studios has been incredibly successful, and the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universehave been some of the biggest of the past decade. And with the massive  Avengers: Infinity Wa r bringing together all of the various MCU franchises to take on the threat of Thanos, Chris Evanshas no concerns about how it will all come together. The  Captain America  actor told fans at Ace Comic Con in Arizona today that making  Avengers: Infinity War  and getting to work with other teams in the MCU -- specifically the Guardians of the Galaxy which fans have seen come to Earth’s aid in the trailer for the film -- marked the first time he felt part of the larger picture, and a big part of that is because "Marvel doesn't miss." "That was the best part of this movie, is that you really kind of, it really was for the first time for me feeling like... the first few movies it's almost like it's happening to somebody else." Evans explained. "You kind of feel like yo

Could 'Black Widow' Be the Marvel Cinematic Universe's First R-Rated Movie?

Image
The Internet is currently buzzing with excitement over a Black Widow solo movie entering the early stages of development, with a script being written by Jac Schaeffer. But as some have already begun to speculate, could the film help pull Marvel Studios into R-rated territory? The topic of R-rated Marvel Cinematic Universe films has been floated around quite a bit, especially considering Sony's Venom solo movieand the Marvel Cinematic Universe future of the Deadpool franchise. But if the MCU wants to venture into their own R-rated properties, a movie centered around Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) might be a good way to do it. On the surface, some could see that as a risky idea, especially considering the number of family-friendly MCU tentpoles that Johansson has appeared in. But a version of that transition has already been seen within Marvel films, with Hugh Jackman bidding farewell to Wolverine in the criticially-acclaimed, R-rated Logan. Even if it isn't Jo

Will The Avengers Wield Their Own Infinity Stones in 'Infinity War' Sequel?

Image
New photos from the set of the untitled Avengers movie ignited a wave of speculation as some of Marvel Studios' most popular heroes joined Captain America, who was sporting his classic uniform. While some thought this indicated a flashback, time-travel, or maybe even resurrections of characters who die in Avengers: Infinity War, it's hard to tell at this point. But someone noticed an interesting detail in the photos, which could have huge implications for the film's plot. Specifically, what is on their hands? Ant-Man, Iron Man and Captain America are all sporting strange devices strapped to one of their hands, with a circular section that appears to be a socket. What if these were makeshift Infinity Gauntlets, meant for each of the heroes to wield one of the six Infinity Stones? Meant to keep the vast power of the assembled stones from being wielded by one individual, these could be just a few of the heroes tasked with protecting the Infinity Stones. Of course, as we saw in

Black Widow may finally have her own movie!

Image
One of the longest-running fan complaints in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been the studio’s reluctance to give Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow her own standalone film, but now it looks like the studio is finally serious about making the project happen.  Variety  reportsthat the studio has hired screenwriter Jac Schaeffer to write a script for the as-of-yet untitled film. The project is reportedly still in the development stages without a formal greenlight in place, but the fact that Marvel is even developing a Black Widow movie is significant. Johansson has been part of the larger franchise since 2010, when she appeared in  Iron Man 2.  But despite the prominence of her character in  The Avengers  and subsequent movies, she has nevertheless been relegated to supporting roles, with male heroes at the helm of Marvel’s standalone movies. That trend appeared to be changing in 2014, when Marvel announced the character Captain Marvel would be getting her own standalone film. (It opens

Marvel Studios' Version of Ben Reilly Spider-Man Costume Revealed

Image
Before Marvel Studios brought the world-famous webslinger into their shared superhero universe, they tooled around with various different appearances for the character's debut. Now Marvel exec Ryan Meinerding is showing off one specific look for Spider-Man inspired by the Peter Parker clone known as Ben Reilly. The design was made for the character's appearance in  Captain America: Civil War . Take a look below: Meinerding's caption reads: So because I can't show any new artwork right now and apparently because everyone is digging the unused Valkyrie and unused Hulk hair styles, here is a unused Spider-Man design. This was done for Civil War, which seems forever ago now. This design pass is inspired by the Ben Reilly costume which was originally designed by the awesome [Mark Bagley] for the comics! It's fun trying out different size spiders and playing with the web designs when I'm designing Spidey suits for the MCU. Head over to my Twitter where I'll have t
